Work package 1

In order to support an effective piloting, comparative preliminary investigations for the application of thermal pressure hydrolysis and hydrothermal carbonization are carried out. The determination of the basic process parameters is essential for varying sewage sludge compositions (especially in comparison of Germany and China). In addition, the methods established at the individual institutes are to be tested for comparability with regard to e.g. gas generation, use of different process technologies for thermal digestion or degradability of the process water. From this, general recommendations on the comparability of pre-treated sewage sludge and their process waters will be derived and the knowledge gained will be incorporated into the design of the pilot plants.
