Water and wastewater treatment, water reuse and water management are of great relevance for the sustainable development of urban, industrial, but also rural areas and are therefore addressed in the study programme “Water Technology, Water Reuse and Water Management” (WaterTech). It is a two-year (4-semesters) full-time programme at the Vietnamese-German University (VGU), which is conducted by the Technical University Darmstadt (TUDa). WaterTech students are introduced to the planning, construction and operation of water works, water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plants and water reuse plants, as well as spatial planning and river basin management.

Graduates of WaterTech have comprehensive competence in the field of water management. Depending on their choice of focus, they have in-depth knowledge of current developments in water and wastewater technology and water reuse or in hydraulic engineering and river basin management. Particularly the competences regarding water reuse are a unique selling point in the field of water management in Asia and especially Southeast Asia and include not only the planning but also the operation of water reuse facilities. The contents developed in the study programme are transferable to countries in Southeast Asia as well as in Europe and Africa and to other areas affected by water scarcity, such as the Gulf States, and are applicable in rural, urban and industrial contexts. This opens up a wide range of career opportunities and numerous potential employers for graduates.
