The combination of different biowaste treatment processes (already existing in real scale and regular operation) with each other and the integration of an innovative biotechnology for the production of biobased products based on non-polar carboxylic acids should improve the economic efficiency of the plants, as well as the ecological use of the biomass.
Within the scope of the project, two further refining concepts are investigated: a stationary concept and a concept consisting of mobile units.
For the stationary concept a substrate enriched with carboxylic acids is produced in the treatment plants for biological waste or agricultural residues and then transported to the central biorefining unit for further treatment. The resulting non-polar carboxylic acids are then separated and converted into biobased products.
The refining concept consisting of mobile units can be integrated into the existing treatment plants and thus carry out the separation of the carboxylic acids from the substrates and the production of biobased products on site. This would make it possible, for example, to directly use the products produced in the treatment plants. For further information, please visit our Combi4Products-Homepage.
