On June 21, 2023, the scientific colloquium „Material Flow Management and Resource Management – 10 years of the SuR department under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Liselotte Schebek“ took place in the festive atmosphere of the Georg-Christoph-Lichtenberg-Haus at TU Darmstadt. The FG SuR was newly founded on October 1, 2013 by resolution of the Senate of TU Darmstadt from the former departments of Waste Technology (previously headed by Prof. Dr. Johannes Jager) and Industrial Material Cycles (headed by Prof. Dr. Liselotte Schebek). 10 years later, on October 1, 2023, Prof. Dr. Schebek retires. A reason to honor the development of the department and the current importance of its scientific topics: Around 100 invited guests, partners and friends of the FG within and outside TUDa followed the professional program. After welcoming speeches by Sebastian Hummel (Hessian Ministry of Economics, Energy, Transport and Housing) and Dr. Patrick Voos (City of Science Darmstadt), Prof. Dr. Boris Lehmann (Dean of Faculty 13) led through the program. He emphasized the outstanding achievements that the SuR department and Liselotte Schebek in particular have made in research and teaching, as well as the increasingly high social relevance of the topics of material flow management, circular economy, resource efficiency and climate protection. The subsequent lecture by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Clemens Rohde (Fraunhofer ISI) focused on the potential of the circular economy for energy and climate policy. In her presentation, Prof. Dr. Schebek outlined the history of material flow management in the age of the Great Acceleration. Finally, an interactive presentation by Dr. Alessio Campitelli (SuR department) illustrated the topic of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in an unusual way – a contribution that offered a very entertaining perspective on the methodology and data collection for LCA in addition to the science.

The get-together at the event also provided an opportunity to talk to speakers, employees and guests from the field.
