Investigation of the microbiological composition of the activated sludge of the Niederrad WWTP

So far, little is known about the microbiological and functional diversity and the interaction of the different groups of bacteria in sewage systems. This applies both to the classic processes such as nitrification / denitrification, which can be carried out by a large number of bacteria, as well as to the processes that have hitherto been neglected. The goals of this research project using modern molecular methods to understand the genetic potential of a wastewater treatment plant with regard to biological nitrogen elimination.
