Water and Environmental Biotechnology
Oxidation and adsorption processes and their combination have proven to be suitable for the reduction of trace substances; in addition, membrane processes are also possible for the retention of bacteria and genes. Previous research projects have not yet dealt much with process combinations that could be relevant for a combined reduction of trace substances and ARB/ARG. The aim of this project is to develop and optimize a new and more cost-effective combination of ultrasound and ozonation as a method for reducing antibiotic resistance in the course of the fourth treatment stage. At the same time, new molecular biological monitoring methods for the investigation of a wide ARG spectrum will be used to provide a comprehensive picture of the performance of ultrasound and ozonation as a combined method.
