Visit from Tongji University at Department 13

On May 7 and 8, the Department of Wastewater Technology at the IWAR Institute, led by Prof. Engelhart, welcomed a delegation from Tongji University in Shanghai. Prof. Dai Xiaohu and Prof. Chen Hongbin from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering visited TU Darmstadt together with a group of master's and doctoral students to exchange ideas on current developments in wastewater treatment.
The focus of the visit was on seminar presentations on current research topics as well as the tour of the new teaching and laboratory building of Department 13 on May 8. The professional exchange provided important impulses for future research collaborations, especially in the areas of wastewater treatment and resource recovery. Both sides emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between the universities and the necessity of international cooperation in addressing global environmental issues – despite the increasingly challenging conditions for funding Sino-German joint projects. A return visit by the Darmstadt researchers is already planned for the fall of 2026.
