Alessio Campitelli studied environmental engineering (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) at the Technical University of Darmstadt. Since 2014, he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Material Flow Management and Resource Economics at the IWAR Institute. His research focuses on waste management systems and circular economy in countries of the Global South, their evaluation and the use of biotechnologies in the context of bioeconomy. He is also involved in teaching and research activities in countries such as Morocco and the Ivory Coast. He has expertise in the field of life cycle assessment and resource efficiency assessment of industrial and digital processes. Between October 2020 and December 2023, he was group leader of the working group "Circular Economy and Secondary Raw Materials". In June 2022, he successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled: "Promoting Circular Economy in Cities of the Global South through Assessment of Waste Management Systems: The Case of Marrakech (Morocco)". Since February 2023, Mr. Campitelli is working as an external consultant at Merck KGaA, working on topics related to Life Cycle Assessment and Circular Economy. In January 2024, Mr. Campitelli transferred to the Chair of Environmental Analysis and Pollutants of the same Institute, where he is responsible for further projects in Morocco and Côte d'Ivoire in the field of circular economy and wastewater technology.
Since 01/2024: TU Darmstadt. Post Doc researcher at the Institut IWAR – Chair Environmental Analytics and Pollutants.
11/2021 winner of the Athene Faculty Award and Main Award for good teaching.
10/2020 till 12/2023: Group leader of the working group “recycling and resource management”.
12/2014: TU Darmstadt. Research associate at the Institute IWAR – Chair of Material Flow Management and Resource Economy.
11/2014: TU Darmstadt. Master of Science Environmental Engineering. Topic of the Master’s Thesis: „Estimation of resource efficiency of cutting technologies based on indicators and a life cycle assessment“.
10/2013: TU Darmstadt. Bachelor of Science Environmental Engineering. Topic of the Bachelor‘s Thesis: “Case study: Material and energy flow analysis of packaging waste in the city of Darmstadt and the district Darmstadt-Dieburg ”.
